Real Estate FAQ: Tax Help!
When it
comes to the time of the year where you¡¯re near the end of your wits and
going almost bald from pulling out your hair in frustration, we fully
understand that paying tax is quite a dread. Getting tax help will
greatly relief you of the more serious headaches and help you sort out
your taxes properly. There are many types of tax. In property tax, they
are decided by
the local governing bodies with different rules and requirements. The
majority of people are familiar and reminded of their property taxes
when a levy in their area is brought up during an election year.
However, when the acceptance of levies gives to higher property taxes,
you have every right to vote against it.
Here are some points that will help you understand some personal
property taxes better:
1. Personal property tax is assessed by the state in which your vehicle
and/or the other items are registered.
2. All the states have different methods for calculating and collection
of the tax.
3. At some states you have to pay property tax worth one year against
the value of the vehicle as from the date of registration. From there
onwards, you would have to pay the property tax whenever you get your
license plate renewed.
4. At some states, license plates are only renewed in January. In other
cases, some have the renewal date on the birthday of the person on whose
name the vehicle has been registered to.
5. Note that some states collect personal property taxes only once a
year. They will send the tax bills to the residents inclusive of all the
personal properties they own all at once.
6. The rates at which the personal property taxes are charged vary form
state to state. One common factor is that they are all based on the
values of the items registered.
7. In case of cars and trucks, the value on which the taxes are charged
is calculated on the basis of the values given in the NADA blue book.
8.It is common that personal property tax is further used to fund the
Department of Motor Vehicles' budget, which can possibly include the
other local and state governments.
9. These taxes might also be diversified to pay the salaries of DMV
workers along with the building space, other supplies, etc.
10. Property taxes charged against the house and the other properties
you own generally cater to the county and/or city government. This money
is used for the betterment of the society in the form of roads, schools,
police support, local government, fire support, etc.
11. Individuals are required to pay both city and county taxes.
12. Property taxes paid against boats, vehicles, etc. listed above, are
used to fund the local government more often, not the state government.
